Evergreen New Developments Now Launching!

Blog

Evergreen Lifestyle is proud to announce the expansion of our national retirement village portfolio, with the launch of 1,000 new homes across four developments in the Western Cape and Gauteng.

Headlining this expansion is the launch of a brand new 440- unit retirement village at Sitari Country Estate, just outside of Somerset West. The village spans 9.5 hectares and will, on completion, accommodate 190 houses, 250 hotel-style suites, a state-of-the-art lifestyle centre and a care centre offering 24-hour nursing care, sub-acute, palliative, frail and memory care.

The balance of the expansion will see sizeable new development phases at three of our existing villages. These include the introduction of a 4,000m2 lifestyle centre along with 96 hotel-style suites at Evergreen Noordhoek in the Cape Peninsula; 150 new free-standing houses and 208 luxury suites at Evergreen Val de Vie, outside Paarl in the Cape Winelands; and 108 serviced suites at Evergreen Broadacres, just north of Johannesburg. The expansion plans will see approximately R3 billion invested over a 2 year roll out.

Evergreen Lifestyle was established in Cape Town in 2008, and is now widely recognised as South Africa’s leading provider of retirement accommodation. Our Muizenberg village was the first to be developed in 2010, followed by Evergreen Bergvliet. Smaller villages at Lake Michelle and Diep River followed, and in 2012 we took the brand national with the development of Evergreen Broadacres, just north of Johannesburg, in Gauteng. More recent additions include Evergreen Noordhoek and Evergreen Val de Vie near Paarl. Launched in 2017, both offer luxury retirement living at its very best, and have benefitted from high demand.

Construction has recently commenced at Evergreen Sitari, the 8th village in Evergreen’s prestigious portfolio, while villages at Umhlanga and Zimbali near Durban, Hilton in the KZN midlands, and at Westbrook in Port Elizabeth, are in the planning process.

At a recent media briefing, Evergreen Property Developments Managing Director, Cobus Bedeker, said “Evergreen’s decision to significantly expand the business against the current economic backdrop is informed by the Group’s confidence, resilience, and belief that South Africa’s economy will bounce back and that markets will once again thrive”.

“Launching new developments and expanding the Evergreen portfolio at a time when other developers have either been unable – or reluctant – to do so, confirms our commitment to meeting the demands of residents and retirees alike, and demonstrates our confidence in the country and its economy”, he said.

“Evergreen is also proud to be able to create significant employment opportunities within an industry that has been devastated by the Coronavirus. Our new development phase will see upwards of 6,000 construction workers employed across the country, while our operating villages account for a further 1,000 permanent jobs linked to facilities management, security, hospitality, and healthcare”, he added.

“We believe that property developers have a critical role to play in aiding South Africa’s economic recovery, stimulating job creation, and redressing endemic social injustice and inequality. We hope that by launching simultaneously across four major developments nationally, we can bring renewed hope to the construction and property development sector and act as a catalyst for further economic growth”, he concluded.

Evergreen’s national portfolio currently sits at 1,200 units across 7 existing villages, with 1,000 new homes currently under construction. To keep up with the demand, we hope to grow our national footprint over the next 10 years to 10,000 homes, across 20 operating villages in all major provinces, with a value of R30 billion.
Evergreen’s new development phase will see homes priced from as little as R 750 000 for a 1- bedroom suite to R 7.5million for a large 3- bedroom home.  In this way, we are proud to be able to meet the needs of a broader retiree market.
